The VT Tragedy

It's been one week since the massacre at Virginia Tech, and still I cannot believe it happened. The worst part of all of this is that ultimately, nothing will change. Our gun culture will continue to shoot along as it always has, and no lessons will be learned. As the media will continue to fixate on this horrible event, not once will they say... "Ya know, maybe there's something wrong with all of us." They'll continue to search for blame, looking as far as Korea to point a finger, but it will never be pointed at our culture. This is why I cry. People masquerade as if they know the answer, as if they can prevent this from happening again, but their solutions are as viable as paper mache houses for the homeless. Fly flags at half mast ... moments of silence... as if anyone really cares. Turn in your handguns, rifles, your own suspicions and paranoias of your neighbors.

I think it's us, we the self righteous masses of America, who are to blame. Everyone is concerned with their own rights, their own protection again their evil neighbors. Why isn't the solution to trust each other? If everyone was brought up trusting their neighbors, why wouldn't you trust them. I believe a person assumes others to be in nature what they themselves are. If you don't trust your neighbor, then you are the type not to be trusted. If you believe strangers are evil, then perhaps it is you who are evil. You see in others what you see in yourself. Clearly I do not understand the need for semi or fully automatic weapons to be at the disposal of the general public.

Please justify this madness! It has become difficult to pay attention to current events without crying, and while my eyes do appear bluer when I'm teary eyed, it's not exactly conducive to being productive.
