Does anyone else suffer from wanting to do to many unrelated things? I remember my undergrad adviser once asking me if I had decided on a major. I told here I was between three or four departments (I ended up double majoring), and she was sorta shocked. She said that her experience was that students either had one in mind, or were ambivalent towards everything. Well, that issue I had years ago has become an ongoing struggle ... almost the theme of my life so far. For this reason I find it helpful to keep lists. For example, I have a list of jobs I'd like to try if I decide that chasing money isn't a race I'm entering. This list includes but is not limited to:
- Professional runner (love running)
- Photographer (love b & w photos)
- Premier scholar of archaeoastronomy (whoo hoo Incas!)
- Truck driver (I do want to wander)
- Window washing ( love heights)
- Barista (love coffee)
- Flower shop owner (love flowers)
- Bookstore worker (love books)
- Landscaper (love physical labor outdoors)
- Guide... as in wilderness (love the wilderness)
- Tutor (love subjects I can teach)
- House flipper (love real estate)
- Personal Trainer (love being in shape and encouraging others to be inshape)
Well, that's all off the top of my head. The path I'm currently pursuing is more of the money chasing path... but ask anyone and I'm definitely not passionate about it. It's probably more about doing whats expected of me - willingly and with full awareness though. Although the technology is fun. How about a world were we can all just switch jobs from time to time... that's gotta even out for everyone. So, what does someone do? Do you go for the gold ... or personal fulfillment? Do you ask yourself this everyday? Or is just the fact that I'm asking it imply that the latter is the correct choice for me? Did I just answer myself?
